Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition in which one observes decreases (hypopneas) or stops (apneas) of breathing during sleep. These stops that last 10 to 60 seconds can recur hundreds of times a night. They are most often due to a blockage of the passage of air in the upper airways. Snoring and pauses in breathing are the main signs of sleep apnea, they are often detected by the spouse. Other symptoms may also be revealing: somnolence in the day, morning headaches, poorly controlled hypertension, recurrent and permanent fatigue, difficult concentration, irritability, drowsiness at work, libido disorders ...

The ventilatory polygraph

This examination can record different signals:
Nasal flow, snoring, breathing effort, oxygenation, and heart rate.

Polysomnography

This exam records neurological signals (Electroencephalogram, electro oculogram, electromyogram), and respiratory signals.

POSITIVE PRESSURE CONTINUES (PPC)

According to the results of the examination, the doctor establishes a diagnosis and prescribes the implementation of treatment under continuous positive pressure (CPP). Recognized as a gold standard treatment, CPAP aims to keep the upper airways open by injecting pressurized air through an interface (nasal, facial, oral and nasal mask).

2 modes are used:
• Constant mode (fixed pressure)
• Self-controlled mode with variable pressure (low pressure and high pressure)
The settings are determined by the prescribing physician.
Specialists in respiratory assistance at home, SOS MEDICAL technicians set up home treatment, in accordance with the established medical prescription.
